Dr. Sultan Al Jaber is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, a landmark renewable energy initiative established by the Government of Abu Dhabi in 2006. Masdar is a multi-faceted renewable energy company dedicated to developing and deploying sustainable energy solutions in markets around the world. Dr. Al Jaber holds a number of advisory positions where he provides counsel on global issues such as sustainability, climate change, and energy challenges. Most recently, Dr. Al Jaber led Masdar’s participation in the UAE’s successful bid to host the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Masdar City. He is now the Director General of the IRENA UAE Liaison office and is actively engaged in the establishment of the agency’s core functions and work plans. In addition, in 2009, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon elected Dr. Al Jaber to join the UN’s Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change. Dr. Al Jaber recently assumed the post, by royal decree, of Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy for Energy & Climate Change. In his new role, Dr. Al Jaber is mandated to represent the United Arab Emirates internationally on its energy and climate change agenda.He is also responsible for supporting the development of a UAE policy framework in clean energy and climate change. Dr. Al Jaber is a frequent commentator and speaker on energy, sustainability and climate change, having appeared in Time Magazine, The Financial Times, Le Monde, The Guardian, The Sunday Times, CNN, Sky News, CNBC, and the BBC. He holds a PhD in Economics and an MBA and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the United States. |

Joost van Dijk MSc is chairman and CEO of the Management Board of E.ON Benelux, that concentrates on the production and supply of electricity and gas to private customers and business customers. Van Dijk joined E.ON in 2001, following a 15 year career at the Shell Group in R&D, engineering, technology and chemical manufacturing. He graduated in electrical engineering and chemical technology at the Twente University and received an MBA from Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Joost van Dijk assumed his current role in March 2005. He is also chairman of the Dutch Gas Turbine Association and member of the Coal Industry Advisory Board, established by the IEA. As co-founder of the VME in 2008 he is also chairing this new Dutch association for free energy markets. |
