KEYNOTE SPEAKERS: 

Gianfilippo Mancini
Director, Generation and Energy Management Division & Market Division, Enel, Italy

Gianfilippo Mancini is the Director of both the Generation and Energy Management Division and the Market Division of Enel. He graduated with a degree in Business and Economics from the University of Genoa and a Master in Business Administration from Columbia University in New York. He held various positions in Olivetti with increasing managerial responsibility in audit and management control, operating both in Italy and abroad. Gianfilippo Mancini moved to the Enel Group in 1997, working in Planning and Control before taking responsibility for this Group. In 2003 he took responsibility for fuel activities and, two years later, for Energy Management.

Since 2007 he has been Director of the Generation and Energy Management Division, the Division of the Enel Group managing a fleet of around 40 GW of power capacity and responsible for fuel supply, plant production and wholesale market sales in Italy, and for the trading of energy commodities in the international markets.

Since 2008 he has also held the position of Director of Enel’s Market Division, the Division, managing a customer base of some 35 million accounts and responsible for the management and development of Enel’s position in the retail power and gas markets in Italy.

Paul Browning
President & CEO, GE Thermal Products
USA

Paul Browning is the president & CEO of GE Thermal Products, overseeing the worldwide business plan and execution of GE’s Heavy Duty Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, Generator and Controls, and Gasification product lines. The global Thermal Products team leads the product management function responsible for design, manufacturing, and installation of large scale electricity generating equipment.

Prior to his current position, Paul was most recently with Caterpillar Corp., as managing director, Caterpillar Motoren, based in Kiel, Germany. He was responsible for a global business in Caterpillar’s Marine & Petroleum Power division.

Previously, Paul was the vice president, Turbomachinery Products in Caterpillar’s Solar Turbines division. Within that division, he worked in commercial, manufacturing, and technical roles.

Paul began his professional career as a research engineer for eight years at the GE Research Center in Niskayuna, NY. This included a role as a program manager for GE Power Systems after receiving his B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.S. in Materials Engineering from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute.

 


 

Giuseppe Zampini
Chief Executive Officer, Ansaldo Energia, Italy

Working from the outset in the power generation sector, Giuseppe Zampini started his career in 1972 at Progettazione Meccaniche Nucleari, before moving on to Nira Spa where he acquired international experience on various projects. Following these experiences in the field of nuclear power, he was appointed to head the Ansaldo Division responsible for energy and steam production plants (cogeneration) in 1989.

From 1990 to 1995 Zampini set up and managed Ansaldo Industria of America, acquiring experience in the field of project financing. Zampini joined Ansaldo Energia in 1997 as General Manager and was appointed to his present position of CEO in 2001. Giuseppe Zampini is a member of ASME and ANIMP/Federprogetti.

Roberto Formigoni 
President of the Region of Lombardy, Italy 

Roberto Formigoni has been President of the Region of Lombardy since 1995.

Born in Lecco in 1947, he graduated in Philosophy at the Università Cattolica in Milan and later studied Political Economics at the Sorbonne, Paris.
In 1973 he was among the founders of the Popular Movement, of which he was national president up to 1987. Elected as European MP in 1984, he was re-elected in 1989 and for five years served as Vice-President of the European Parliament. He first gained a seat in the Italian Parliament in June 1987. Re-elected in 1992 and 1994, from 1993 to 1994 Roberto Formigoni was State Under-secretary at the Ministry for the Environment.
In December 2004 he was awarded an honorary Degree in Communication Science by the IULM University (Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione).
Roberto Formigoni has developed in Lombardy a sound model of governance for the entire Nation by promoting the Lombardy’s socio-economic system on the international stage through extremely high-profile institutional missions across all five continents.
He is currently a member of the People of Freedom party's Presidential Office.
